UK workers ''should be prepared'' for renewable energy growth

UK workers need to be given the skills to respond to the growth of the renewable energy sector, according to a representative of the Renewable Energy Centre.
A spokesperson from the organisation has outlined their view that measures should be taken in the near future to prepare for things like new wind farms.
"It is important that the government seizes this time to ensure the skills and workforce are in place to accommodate the expansion of the wind energy industry," they commented.

The spokesperson also suggested that skilled foreign employees might take advantage of the employment opportunities provided by the renewable sector, if the skills possessed by UK workers are not advanced enough.
Earlier in the month, a number of firms were selected by the Crown Estate to develop a variety of wind power sites in the UK.
The announcement has since been given the backing of prime minister Gordon Brown.
