Unison: Future of adult education funding unclear
Date posted: 06 Feb 2010
English colleges have been alerted to the fact that their future funding position could be unclear due to proposed cuts.
The Association of Colleges (AoC) has recently highlighted the negative consequences that financial cutbacks might lead to when it comes to the provision of education for adults.
Head of education at Unison Christina McAnea believes that colleges need to respond carefully to this uncertainty.
She commented: "Colleges must act responsibly and not make any rash decisions before they have received their final budget allocations, as the funding picture is not yet clear."
Ms McAnea went on to say that her organisation is concerned about the impact that a reduction in funding could have for those teaching and taking part in courses designed for adults.
The AoC has recently noted that the likes of electrical installation and joinery courses could be hit by the proposed reductions in colleges'' adult education funding.
