Bleinham Palace was the setting yesterday for a one-day conference where head of Taylor Vinters' Horse Racing and Equine, Rachel Flynn, spoke about the '"Legal Issues Affecting an Equine Enterprise".

Due to the financial instability of traditional farm businesses in recent years many are choosing to diversify to supplement their income.  Diversified holdings cover a broad spectrum of activities with many opting to contain some form of equine enterprise.

Equestrianism in its many forms  is a major activity in rural England and has a justifiable claim to be the second largest activity in the countryside after farming.  It is only natural that the two enterprises work efficiently and profitably hand in hand.

Other speakers included Peter Morris, Equine Development Director, Royal Agricultural College;   Claire Williams, Executive Director and Secretary of the British Equestrian Trade Association;  Georgina Crossman, Centre for Rural Policy, University of Exeter;  Nicola Greenhalgh, Equine Studies and Business Management, Equine Consultant;   Dr Jacqueline Middleton, RDPE Strategic Programme Manager, SEEDA;   Andrea Gardner Thorpe, Equine Tax Consultant;  Jayne Gingell, MD of Fizz Equine Marketing Ltd;  and Paul Anderson of Stone Circle Livery.
